Vienna Vikings strengthen grip on top spot in latest AFLE Power Rankings
Eight weeks into the American Football League Europe season, the playoff picture is beginning to take shape. The Vienna Vikings remain the league’s only unbeaten team after defeating fellow title contender Rhein Fire 28-16, while the Wroclaw Panthers and Rhein Fire continue to establish themselves as the other championship contenders. Behind the league’s top three, the race for the fourth and final playoff berth remains wide open with the Berlin Thunder holding off challenges from the London Warriors and Paris Lights.
Power rankings
1. Vienna Vikings (8-0)
The Vikings have answered every challenge this season. After routing the Paris Lights 56-6 before the summer break, Vienna followed it up with perhaps its most impressive victory yet, knocking off Rhein Fire 28-16. The league’s only unbeaten team continues to combine explosive offense with timely defense and remains the clear favorite heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
2. Rhein Fire (5-2)
Rhein Fire delivered one of the season’s most dominant performances two weeks ago by dismantling the Wroclaw Panthers 48-7, but couldn’t carry that momentum into its showdown with Vienna, falling 28-16. Even with the loss, Fire remains one of the league’s premier teams and a legitimate championship contender.
3. Wroclaw Panthers (6-2)
The Panthers bounced back in emphatic fashion after their loss to Rhein Fire, rolling past the Firenze Red Lions 62-0. While the defeat to Fire exposed some weaknesses, Wroclaw responded exactly as a championship-caliber team should and remains firmly entrenched among AFLE’s elite.
4. Berlin Thunder (4-4)
The Thunder have won consecutive games at a crucial point in the season, beating the Firenze Red Lions 49-3 before following it with a 40-17 victory over the Alpine Rams. Jakeb Sullivan continues to lead an offense that has found its rhythm, and Berlin remains in control of the final playoff position.
5. London Warriors (4-4)
The Warriors have quietly built momentum over the past two weeks. After edging the Alpine Rams 27-26, they followed with an impressive 44-23 road victory over the Paris Lights. Their offense continues to improve, and they remain within striking distance of the postseason.
6. Paris Lights (2-5)
The Lights have endured a difficult two-game stretch, suffering losses to both the Vikings and the Warriors. Despite showing flashes throughout the season, Paris now faces an uphill battle to climb back into playoff contention.
7. Alpine Rams (1-6)
The Rams narrowly missed pulling off an important victory against the Warriors before dropping a 40-17 decision to the Thunder. Competitive performances have not translated into wins, leaving Alpine with little margin for error.
8. Firenze Red Lions (0-7)
Back-to-back defeats to the Thunder and the Panthers have left the Red Lions still searching for their first victory. Although the record remains winless, Firenze continues to gain valuable experience during its inaugural AFLE campaign.
Playoff picture
If the postseason began today, the Berlin Thunder would travel to face the Vienna Vikings in one semifinal, while the Wroclaw Panthers would visit the Rhein Fire in the other.
The top three have created clear separation from the rest of the league, but the battle for fourth remains far from settled. Berlin currently controls the final playoff berth, though the London Warriors remain within striking distance after winning consecutive games. With only two weeks remaining in the regular season, every game could have major implications for the race to the AFLE playoffs.
