Calanda Broncos from Switzerland re-sign Arizona Wildcat DE Jeff Worthy

Switzerland’s reigning champions, the Calanda Broncos have re-signed University of Arizona defensive end Jeff Worthy for the 2018 season.

The 6’3″, 290 lb defensive lineman and native of La Mirada, California, was a key reason that Calanda’s defense was a dominant force in 2017, particularly in the playoffs when they allowed only 21 total points in the semifinals and in the Swiss Bowl.

Calanda defeated the Basel Gladiators 42-6 to win Swiss Bowl XXXII.

Worthy had played for league rivals, the Bern Grizzlies in 2016, helping them to win the Swiss championship that year but was inexplicably not re-signed and so chose the Broncos.

When asked by the Broncos what type of player he is Worthy had this to say:

“I am a 3 technique, pass rush guy. I can stop the run. I like a lot of different moves that I use and I like to hit quarterbacks. I get to the quarterback and I bury him.”

At Arizona, Worthy was a standout in his senior year in the PAC 12 and earned him NFL Draft attention. He recorded 23 total tackles and five sacks in 12 games for the Wildcats.
