Calgary Stampeders re-sign German/Global LB Lino Schröter

The Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League have announced the re-signing of German and Global linebacker Lino Schröter.

The 6’1″, 230 pound native of Troisdorf, Germany was a second-round selection by the Stampeders in the 2023 Global Draft. He attended Calgary’s training camp a year ago and saw action in one pre-season game, recording one defensive tackle. His bid to make the final roster ended as the result of a knee injury. He spent the rest of the season rehabbing.

Before arriving in Calgary, Schröter started playing football with his hometown Troisdorf Jets junior team. He left to play high-school football in the United States in Herington, Kansas, and when he returned he played for the Troisdorf Jets senior team (German 3rd division) and then spent two seasons (2021-2022) with the Cologne Crocodiles in the German Football League where he truly made his mark.

He was the Crocodiles’ special teams player of the year and most improved defensive player in 2021 and made the German Football League all-star team in 2022 after recording 59 tackles including 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, six pass breakups and one forced fumble in 11 games.
