Frankfurt Galaxy stay alive with win over Prague Lions

The Frankfurt Galaxy (2-3) strengthened their playoff hopes in the European Football Alliance with a 31-18 victory over the Prague Lions (0-5) in front of 4,519 fans at PSD Bank Arena on Sunday.

For Frankfurt, it was an important second win of the season. For Prague, the search for a first victory continues despite another spirited effort.

Fast start gives Galaxy control

The game could hardly have started better for Frankfurt.

After forcing a punt on the opening possession, the Galaxy offense quickly got to work. Running back Antony Marvyn Bouembe capped the opening drive with a touchdown run, and the home team never looked back.

Quarterback Ethan Garbers was sharp throughout the afternoon, completing 21 of 30 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns. One of those scoring strikes went to Normen Schumm, whose 28-yard touchdown reception helped Frankfurt build a 14-0 first-quarter lead.

Schumm finished with five catches for 150 yards and a touchdown, repeatedly stretching the Prague secondary with explosive plays.

Big plays extend the lead

The Lions finally got on the board in the second quarter when Jaylon Henderson connected with William Patterson on a 46-yard touchdown pass.

However, Frankfurt answered immediately.

A 32-yard touchdown run by Mason Chambers provided one of the biggest highlights of the day before Garbers found Adria Botella Moreno for another score late in the half. Moreno finished with three catches for 21 yards and a touchdown as the Galaxy took a commanding 28-6 lead into the break.

Lions battle back

To their credit, the Prague Lions refused to fold.

Henderson, who threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns while adding 61 rushing yards on 10 carries, led a strong second-half response. He connected with Matyáš Bílý on a 43-yard touchdown pass before Adam Žouželka added a rushing score to cut the deficit.

Patterson remained Henderson’s top target, hauling in five catches for 97 yards and a touchdown.

But every time momentum threatened to swing, Frankfurt found an answer. Ryan Rimmler’s field goal restored a two-possession lead, and the Galaxy defense came up with a crucial goal-line stand after a blocked punt gave Prague one final opportunity.

The victory keeps Frankfurt Galaxy firmly in the playoff hunt, while the Prague Lions remain winless despite showing flashes of improvement.
