German Football League: Berlin Rebels add French RB Meril Zéro

The Berlin Rebels of the German Football League have added another piece to their 2022 squad signing French running back Meril Zéro.

The former German Bowl champion (with Braunschweig New Yorker Lions in 2019) will now bring his talents to Germany’s capital city after a year away from the game.

“Well, I just feel like it’s the right place & right time for me. I really feel like I’m wanted here and I want to help the team to make a deep push in the postseason. On a personal note I want to be one of the best in the league and with what is provided by the team I really think I can do it.”

The 6′ 200-pound ball carrier last played for the Bydgoczsz Archers of Poland in 2020. As a member of the Archers, Zéro was a dangerous speed back and kick returner.  The year prior, the Paris native won a German Bowl title as part of a talented New Yorker Lions backfield, contributing 619 yards on 8.6 yards a carry, and six touchdowns on the ground.

The 25-year old began playing football at the age of 13 in his home town for the Flash de la Courneuve. Zéro went on to play high school football stateside in New Jersey, before playing at the Cegep level in Canada.

The French tail-back joins American quarterback Donovan Insom and former NFL IPP invite Antoni Podgorski in an offense that could make some noise in the GFL. Defensively, veterans Rory Johnson and Daniel Docal are two players Berlin will rely on for the 2022 season.
