LIVESTREAM – Spain: Fuengirola Potros @ Las Rozas Black Demons, Feb. 27, 17:00 CET (11:00 ET)

Spanish football is back, as the first place and undefeated Las Rozas Black Demons (3-0) host the Feungirola Potros (1-2) on Saturday, February 27.

The home team will have the advantage in this one as they are coming off an emotional win against their cross-town rivals the Osos Rivas last week. The last time the Black Demons and Potros met back in December, the Black Demons dominated 41-8. Don’t expect this game to be another blowout.

The Potros have undergone a major improvement since week one. In their last game, against the Mallorca Voltors two weeks ago, their offense put up 34 points behind a strong showing from Finnish quarterback Henri Väänänen. The 42-34 loss to Mallorca was a step in the right direction for this Potros team, as they have relied on their stiff defense most of the season. Look for the Potros defense and ball hawking safety Noah Richards to bounce back if they want to hang with a stacked Black Demons offense.  Väänänen and the Potros offense will need another strong showing to keep up with an explosive Black Demons team.

Väänänen is looking forward to competing against the best team in Spain:

“They are hands down the best team in Spain right now. We’re looking to execute at a high level, keep the mistakes to a minimum and make it a competitive game. Its a good test for us, and a chance to see where we stand with the big boys in this league.”

The Black Demons go into this game with a ton of confidence. The undefeated Madrid-based squad has been able to mesh their talented imports with a strong domestic core of Spanish players, making for a team that looks destined for a deep playoff run. This week, quarterback Chris Merchant and former Florida State receiver Mavin Saunders have their hands full as they are matched up against a hard hitting Potros secondary. Defensively, the speed and strength of the Black Demons front seven led by lineman Carlos Carrasco and linebacker William Lloyd, could be a mismatch for Väänänen and the Potros offense. Look for Clemson product Darius Robinson to be a factor again this week. The former Tiger showed off his speed with a 99-yard kickoff return touchdown and a interception one week ago.

Black Demons quarterback Chris Merchant on last week’s Madrid Derby victory and the matchup against the Potros:

“Our win last week against the Rivas felt very good, however, we are not satisfied with how we are playing yet. This week we hope to take another step forward toward our ultimate goal and fix some of the mistakes that hurt us last weekend. We know the Potros are going to give us everything they have and we look forward to a good, hard fought game.”

Look for this game to be a showcase of talent as the Las Rozas roster is sprinkled with some of Europe’s best athletes. The Potros have nothing too lose and are going into this game to play spoiler.
