LIVESTREAM Germany PPV: Braunschweig New Yorker Lions @ Berlin Rebels, Sept. 2, 15:00 CET (3 pm, 9 am EDT)

In the 16th week of German Football League action, the 8-2 Braunschweig New Yorker Lions will host the Berlin Rebels, who hold a 6-5 record.

The last matchup between the two sides came in week six and resulted in a 38-21 win for the Lions. The game saw one of Karé Lyles’ best performances of the season, completing 13 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns, while RB D’wayne Obi had yet another dominant performance on the ground with 162 yards and a touchdown.

With the Lions’ only losses coming to the dominant Royals and Monarchs respectively, they will enter this game as favorites to win as they approach the end of a great season. Obi has been instrumental to Braunschweig’s success, leading the league in rushing yards by a landslide with 1219 yards, while no other player has surpassed the 1,000 yard mark.

After missing two games due to injury, QB Karé Lyles brought his team back to winning ways with an impressive 42-14 win over a strong Allgäu Comets squad. On top of the standard 150+ yard performance from D’wayne Obi, WR Luc Meacham was a huge factor. On top of some crucial receptions, Meacham put up two scores on special teams, returning a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown.

The Rebels will be playing on the back of two straight losses to the Dresden Monarchs and Saarland Hurricanes respectively, the latter seeing them lose 44-28. WR Dario Dobrolevski took Connor Kaegi’s spot under-center and punt on a stellar performance, completing 15 of 21 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns without a turnover, finding Bryce Goggin for two of those scores and 137 yards. Where the Rebels struggled offensively was the run game; despite a heavy rotation of backs, Tyrese Johnson-Fisher led the backfield with just 35 rushing yards, and the only rushing touchdown came by way of Dobrolevski.

Defensively, Berlin had the opposite issue; while they held the Hurricanes to just 52 yards on the ground, they allowed QB Robby Rowell to rack up 331 yards and a career-high six touchdowns through the air without a turnover.

The Berlin Rebels will look to cause an upset as they travel to face the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions on Saturday.
