Mexico: Semifinal round in Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional set to offer plenty of drama

The Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA) has reached the semifinal round with one surprising matchup and a highly anticipated game between two longtime rivals. The winners of these two games will face off in the Tazón México V on May 21.

Saturday, May 7

(6) Gallos Negros de Querétaro @ (1) Dinos de Saltillo

After upsetting the Mexicas in the wild card round, beating them 14-7, the Gallos Negros have a chance to advance to the championship in their inaugural season. However, it will be a tall order as they will be facing the Dinos de Saltillo, who have been seen as the title favorites of the league since Week 3 and are the number one seed. That just so happened to be the week in which the Dinos downed Querétaro 24-10 to improve their season to 3-0.

Sunday, May 8

(4) Raptors de Naucalpan @ (2) Fundidores de Monterrey

The Raptors are coming off a convincing 26-6 win over the Reyes and are traveling to Monterrey to take on the Fundidores. The last time these two played in the playoffs was in the 2019 North Division Championship where the Raptors won in overtime 53-47 in what many consider as the best playoff game in the history of the LFA. Similarly, when these two squads faced off in Week 4, it came down to a last second field goal with the Fundidores prevailing 23-20. So, with two of the league’s best quarterbacks in Shelton Eppler for the Fundidores and the Raptors Bruno Márquez, we could hopefully see another classic between these two.
