Ravensburg pulls away from Munich for 35-14 road win, climbs to second in GFL South

The Ravensburg Razorbacks (7-3) broke open a tie game with 21 unanswered second-half points Saturday, beating the Munich Cowboys (5-5) 35-14 at Dantestadion and climbing into second place in the German Football League South.

The Cowboys entered the game without leading receiver Gabriel Boccella, forcing them to reshuffle an offense that still managed to stay with the Razorbacks through the opening half.

Ravensburg strikes first

The Cowboys moved the ball on their opening possession before the Ravensburg defense stopped the drive, and the Razorbacks went to work.

Broghean McGovern moved the offense down the field before Lennies McFerren powered across the goal line from two yards out. Aniel Buße added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Munich came right back. Nick Semptimphelter marched the Cowboys into the Ravensburg red zone and found Sebastian Reiner open in the end zone. Maximilian Mittasch’s extra point tied it 7-7.

Cowboys keep answering

McGovern put the Razorbacks back in front in the second quarter, connecting with Tim Müller for a touchdown and a 14-7 advantage.

Again, the Cowboys answered. Maximilian Mayer helped move the offense on the ground before Semptimphelter found Jonathan Roebuck for the touchdown with a minute remaining. Mittasch’s kick sent the teams into halftime tied 14-14.

Razorbacks take control

The game changed after the break.

Ravensburg began leaning on McFerren and Tye Germain on the ground before McGovern hit William Enneking for the go-ahead touchdown, putting the Razorbacks ahead 21-14.

The Munich offense then came up empty on fourth down near midfield, and Ravensburg immediately made the missed opportunity hurt. McGovern went deep to Buße, who hauled in the pass and took it into the end zone to stretch the lead to 28-14.

Defense shuts the door

The Razorbacks defense took over from there.

Gabriele Battistella picked off Semptimphelter early in the fourth quarter, and Ravensburg needed only one play to cash it in. McGovern went right back to Buße for another touchdown, pushing the lead to 35-14.

Jonah Choate later added another interception as the Razorbacks kept Munich off the scoreboard throughout the second half.

The victory moved Ravensburg into second place in the GFL South after the Pforzheim Wilddogs lost 26-22 to the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes. The Razorbacks now turn their attention to a home matchup with the Regensburg Phoenix, while the Cowboys have two games remaining as they continue their push for a playoff spot.
